Reserves Oil or gas contained in underground rock formations called reservoirs. Proved reserves are the estimated quantities that geologic and engineering data demonstrate can be produced with reasonable certainty from known reservoirs under existing economic and operating conditions. Recoverable reserves are those that can be produced using all known primary and enhanced recovery methods

Reservoir A porous, permeable sedimentary rock containing commercial quantities of oil and gas.

Residue Gas Gas remaining after processing and extraction of NGL.

Rollover contractany contract, entered into on or after November 9, 1978, for the first sale of natural gas that was previously subject to an existing contract which expired at the end of a fixed term (not including any extension thereof taking effect on or after November 9, 1978) specified by the provisions of such existing contract, as such contract was in effect on November 9, 1978, whether or not there is an identity of parties or terms with those of such existing contract.

Rotary DrillThe now prevalent method of drilling oil wells , replacing Cable Tool Drilling. In essence, the principle of rotary drilling is the rotation of drill pipe, fastened to the bottom of which is a bit (or cutting tool), usually of the roller bit design. The rocky debris is continuously evacuated to the surface by a flow of mud under pressure.

Royalty or Royalty Interest Means an interest in an oil and gas lease that gives the owner of the interest the right to receive a portion of the production from the leased acreage (or of the proceeds of the sale of production), but generally does not require the owner to pay any portion of the costs of drilling or operating the wells on the leased acreage. Royalties may be either landowner’s royalties, which are reserved by the owner of the leased acreage at the time the lease is granted, or overriding royalties, which are usually reserved by an owner of the leasehold in connection with a transfer to a subsequent owner.
